Limit checker

Typical limits — platforms change them, check the platform before you post. A preset counts characters including spaces; a custom target can count words or characters.

0 / 280 characters — under the limit.

This text is over 200 KB, so auto-update pauses itself to stay smooth.

Your text never leaves this browser. Counting happens on this page only — nothing is uploaded, stored, or kept in history.

How Figgy counts

  • Words: runs of non-whitespace characters. Hyphenated words (state-of-the-art), contractions (don't) and numbers with decimals or commas (3.50, 1,000) each count as one word.
  • Characters with spaces: every visible character (grapheme cluster), including spaces, tabs and newlines. One emoji counts as one, even a compound one.
  • Characters without spaces: the same count with all whitespace removed — spaces, tabs and newlines all excluded.
  • Lines: newline-separated segments; empty text is 0 lines and a trailing newline adds none. Paragraphs: blocks separated by blank lines.
  • Sentences end at . ! ? …, plus a final unterminated fragment. Abbreviations like e.g. or Dr. inflate this count — it is an estimate, never a grammatical parse.
  • Totals may differ slightly from Word or Google Docs — they use their own counting rules. This page states its rules so you can see exactly why.

Keyboard: Tab to the text box, type or paste, Tab to the buttons. No mouse-only control — every button is a real button.

A break-room utility, not a game: no scores, no leaderboard, nothing to beat. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute, speaking time 130 — both estimates.
