State pages with more detail
Each state page explains that state's quirks in plain English: the California Paycheck Calculator (why California taxes your 401(k), and the 1.3% SDI), the New York Paycheck Calculator (NYC and Yonkers taxes, Paid Family Leave), Texas and Florida (no state income tax at all). More states are on the way.
How this calculator works
Federal withholding follows the IRS's official method (Publication 15-T for 2026): your pay is annualized, adjusted for your W-4 entries, taxed through the official withholding schedules, then divided back into paychecks. State withholding uses each state's official method — California's EDD Method B and New York's NYS-50-T Method II, both from the states' own 2026 publications. Social Security and Medicare use the statutory FICA rates and the 2026 Social Security wage base ($184,500). Full sources are on our methodology page.
